Why Are Women Still Not Safe?
"Why Are Women Still Not Safe?"
We live in a time of remarkable progress. Women have achieved milestones in science, politics, education, business, and every imaginable field. And yet, despite living in a so-called developed society, the question still lingers... why are women still not safe?
Even today, women live in fear. Fear of walking alone at night, Fear of being judged, harassed, or violated. Every other day, we hear disturbing news of crimes against women... violence, abuse, harassment, and invasion of privacy. It’s heartbreaking. It’s enraging. And it’s unacceptable.
But the truth is, this lack of safety doesn't begin when a woman is born. It begins before she even takes her first breath. In many places, if it's discovered that a baby in the womb is a girl, she is not even given the chance to live. Female foeticide... the illegal and inhumane act of killing an unborn girl child, is still a horrifying reality. Despite laws banning gender determination tests, they are still secretly conducted, and unborn girls are denied the right to life simply because of their gender.
What does this say about us as a society?
A woman’s safety is not just about protection from physical harm. It’s about dignity, respect, equality, and the right to exist without fear from the moment life begins.
We must understand that ensuring the safety and dignity of every woman and girl is not just a legal or political issue, it is a moral and social responsibility. Every family, every community, every individual must take ownership of this responsibility.
Let’s not wait for another horrific headline to shake us. Let us change the mindset, challenge the stereotypes, and raise our voices. A truly developed nation is one where every woman feels safe, valued, and empowered... not just in law, but in everyday life.
